Bodbe Monastery

Bodbe Monastery (officially the Monastery of St. Nino at Bodbe) is one of Georgia’s most sacred and beautiful spiritual landmarks. Nestled among towering cypress trees just 2 kilometers from Sighnaghi, this active nunnery dates back to the 4th century. It is the final resting place of Saint Nino, the female evangelist who brought Christianity to Georgia in 326 AD.

Built over her gravesite by King Mirian III, the complex features a beautifully frescoed 9th-century basilica, a striking new cathedral, and manicured gardens meticulously tended by the resident nuns. A steep trail leads down the hillside to a sacred, spring-fed pool believed to have miraculous healing properties. Offering a profound sense of peace and stunning views over the Alazani Valley, Bodbe is a must-visit destination for history lovers and spiritual travelers alike.
